DYI: Dining Table

As you all know we can’t seem to stay in one apartment for very long. So in our moving experience this time around we decided to refinish a dining table we bought off of Craigslist for $20. We used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which I HIGHLY recommend! It’s fabulous to work with especially if you’re like we were and had no clue what we were doing ha.

This was what ours started out as.

We choose these colors.

Of course we started with the legs because those are really easy to redo considering we did mess up twice ha. So once we had our technique down pat we then completed the top. We painted 2 coats of Barcelona Orange then two coats of Provence. Then we sanded our hearts out!!

This was definitely the hardest but most rewarding part! It took 2 days but we achieved the look we were wanting. Lastly, we waxed it with the Annie Sloan Soft Wax and let it cure for 72 hrs right before we moved.

Now we have this lovely wonderful table!! It was a wonderful way for us to spend time together and I love how it turned out!!  We definitely would recommend the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to anyone wanting to refinish furniture it is amazing to work with! Next up are the chairs!!

Fresh Focus

So I have realized that over the last two weeks my attempts at becoming a morning person and a fitness workout queen at the same time has just not worked out for me, imagine that. I have decided to take my efforts and refocus them on one small thing at a time each day, that way I don’t wind up feeling like an utter and complete failure. Which, BTW is how I’ve felt over the last two weeks.

Therefore, in my new discovery I’ve decided to take a lesson from my self study, Me, Myself and Lies, and FOCUS on being positive and setting my self up for success by starting small. I swam 6 laps in the pool today. And while you may think oh geez way to go a BIG 6 laps, let me ask you this, when was the last time you tried laps in a pool? It is some kinda hard work. So today I feel good because I did 6 laps (from one end and back). I got up off the couch, made the effort and did something to get my heart rate above normal. That counts for something in my book!

I’ve also gotten back on my ritual of using the MyFitnessPal app and watching my eating habits again. With all of my lovely visitors in town we have gotten off track a bit. So it’s time to get back on the right path. And today I feel like I’ve taken the right steps toward my goals!!

Melissa has also written a book that I MUST read and will blog about after…Not a DIY Diva: How to Create an Authentically Inspired Life in a Pinterest World. Melissa says, “This book is about embracing your authentic style and way of living at home so that you can be content,  even in this ‘perfect image’ world we live in.” I do believe it was written for me!! It’s so easy to be jealous of someones “perfect” home or all the fabulous things we see on Pinterest. However, we must learn to be content and love our own style and what we can afford. I think I’m going to enjoy it! Be on the look out for my review soon.

In the meantime if you’re looking for lots of out of the box ideas, simple, budget-friendly DIY’s or just need to ogle over some delicious design check out The Inspired Room. It’s sure to get the creative juices flowing!

Crafty Inspiration

Last week my family came to visit and I spent some time helping my sister being crafty. Painting, glitter, bedazzling cups, etc and I must say it put me in the decorating spirit. Being that the holidays are also fastly approaching I started thinking about Christmas and all the fun decorating that goes along with it. The trees, cards, lights, and cookies! Our family lives for the holiday season. So when I saw this on The Inspired Room (click for the full post) I instantly thought of my sister and our holiday, crafty fun! My wrapping/craft station consist of my living room floor right now! I can only dream to have one of these in my house one day but my sister probably already does haha. Enjoy!
