Favorite Friday: Florida Georgia Line

So ya’ll, this Favorite Friday is all about my latest country music obsession, Florida Georgia Line. They are on my running playlist and every time I hear them on the radio I instantly turn it up and sing as loud as I possibly can! There’s just something that makes me feel good when I hear two Southern boys singing about whiskey, the country, and women.

Round Here – FGL

“The moon comes up and the sun goes down
We find a little spot on the edge of town
Twist off, sip a little, pass it around
Dance in the dust, turn the radio up
And that fireball whiskey whispers
Temptation in my ear
It’s a feelin’ alright Saturday night
And that’s how we do it ’round here
Yeah that’s how we do it ’round here”

Tip It Back – FGL

“Yeah, if you had a long day or a long week
Grab a longneck if you’re with me
Come on now, holler “Hell yeah”
Cause tonight we’re here to party
And don’t worry about anything except what’s in your glass
Whether it’s a cold beer, tequila, or a double shot of Jack
Yeah, all you need to do tonight is tip it back”

Get Your Shine On – FGL

“Strawberry shimmer on hot lips,
Silver buckle hangin’ off her hips.
I sparkle when she smiles.
Shinedown on the radio dial.
Homemade jar o’ lemon drop, take a sip.
Don’t stop girl, you know I love it when you get your shine on!”

Just something about those lyrics and the music that makes me run harder, smile longer, and sing a little louder. And then when the Nelly Remix of Cruise came out, I literally about died. haha. I mean it’s come on, it’s Nelly. Ok, ok, I’ll stop before you all think I’m crazy.

Hope ya’ll have a Fabulous Friday Rockin’ Out to your own Favorite Jams!

Favorite Friday: Bold and Beautiful

While I was flipping though the latest Charleston Weddings today I suddenly came across a scene that looked very familiar to me: Lowndes Grove on a blustery yet, superbly sunny April day last year. Bold and beautiful colors of orange and green were everywhere transforming this classic Charleston venue into a stunning and unique reception. That was yet another spectacular day that I worked with Calder Clark Designs. As always it was a joyous and humbling experience to learn from one of the top Charleston event planners. I watched her take spring green patterned pillows and orange flowers and make her vision come to life. Before working with Calder I had been taught that most weddings in Charleston were cookie cutter…rustic, plantations, and lots of the same antique furniture. Same colors, same flowers, etc, etc, etc….BORING!! I realize now that working with Calder taught me that every event has it’s own identity and that all it takes is the simplest of details (it’s always in the details) to transform a cookie cutter event into a unique and unforgettable evening. Take a look and you’ll see what I mean. (See more on Calder’s Blog)

Check out the custom aisle runner!! Stunning…and yes all handmade!!

Wonder where the idea from the aisle runner came from….hmmmmm? Once again, it’s always in the details!

Favorite Friday: Southern Savers

During a wonderful Friday off work I had lunch with a dear friend who has taken up this new craze of couponing and she has now got me hooked on a new website that officially has made Favorite Friday: Southern Savers. It is perfect for a person like me who has no patience or energy to devote to collecting newspapers and scourge websites printing tons of coupons.

Every week when all the local ads come out Jenny lists all the specials and their coupon match ups! She even puts links to all the manufacturers coupons and the major sunday coupons as well. It’s so easy! I just find my grocery store click on the weekly blog and right the are all the specials with links to additional coupons. She lists the source for these as well so if you the Sunday paper with these coupons she puts the date and which coupon it is. Then if you keep a binder you can go back and find it and boom even more savings! All of this with just a few clicks! So this is my Favorite Friday today! Another way to save for all those vacations, nights out, etc! I am totally game! Are you?

Favorite Friday: Purple and Gold

I am obsessed with the color palette of purple and gold for anything lately. Jewelry, clothes, parties, Christmas, you name it and I adore it in purple and gold ha! However, it must be a subtle purple and gold combo. Not the overwhelming kind that gives your guests the feeling that they’ve walked into a grape. The chic, timeless, elegant combination that just screams glamorous.

Favorite Friday: Accent on Wine

It amazing how much culture and food can be found in and around Charleston. I have lived in Summerville for the last 2.5 years and we still find new and exciting things to do! Last night we ventured out for Summerville’s Third Thursday. Much like Second Sunday on King, downtown Summerville shuts down to cars and all the shops bring their goods for sale on the street, and people out and about everywhere. It was a perfect Fall evening! We ate dinner at Alessandra’s Italian Eatery which was amazing and a hidden gem in Summerville. After our amazing tiramisu, we strolled down to Accent on Wine, our favorite wine bar in the Tri-County area. We walked in and quickly realized we’d have to keep an eye out for a seat as the place was packed! Everyone sipping on delicious wines, sampling cheeses, and laughter throughout the restaurant created the perfect evening. We sat at the bar and the owner, Stephane, guided me through the red wines until finally he chose a magnificent Chilean Carménère. They hold your ticket with these fun, toy animals so you never have to leave your card behind for a tab. The atmosphere is magical. It takes me back to Europe and reminds me of all the things I love about living in a cultural city. They also complement their fabulous selection of wines with a divine selection of meats and cheeses. During our first adventure there we ordered “The Whole Shebang” as it is called on the menu. You pick three cheeses and three meats that are accompanied with apples, nuts, figs, and crackers. I adore prosciutto and a smooth, flavorful cheese when sipping on wine and oh this place has it all! So if you haven’t yet popped in to visit the team at Accent on Wine I think you should. You won’t be disappointed.

Our tab keeper – isn’t he cute!

“The Whole Shebang” – Now that’s a cheese plate! Prosciutto , Genoa salami, smoked salmon, manchego, red dragon, and one more cheese I absolutely cannot think of the name!

Favorite Friday: Roasted Tomato and Basil Soup

My mom and dad got me a Crock Pot cookbook for Christmas last year and since being married I have begun to try a lot of those recipes on our lazy weekends. Since Fall is the perfect season for soups I tried my hand at the roasted tomato and basil soup recipe. It was so amazing that it is my favorite thing this Friday!! We have had it in my house twice in the last month and I’m making it again this weekend! It’s very easy and delicious. It is a heavier soup with robust flavor. Grilled cheese sandwiches make the perfect sidekick! Being that it is made in the Crock Pot it can be a perfect addition to a family gathering or holiday party! Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

2 cans (28 oz size) peeled, whole tomatoes, drained and liquid reserved
2 1/2 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cups chicken broth (low sodium)
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 can (5 ounce size) evaporated milk
1/4 cup fresh shredded basil
salt and pepper, to taste

PREPARATION:

Preheat your oven @ 450F. Line a baking sheet with foil, spray with a non stick cooking spray.

Arrange tomatoes on foil in a single layer. Sprinkle with brown sugar and top with onions. Bake for 30 minutes or until tomatoes look dry and light brown. Let them cool a bit; finely chop them.

Place tomato mixture, 3 cups liquid from tomatoes, broth, tomato paste, and all spice into Crock pot. Mix well. Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours.

Then add evaporated milk and basil, salt and pepper. Cover and cook again for 30 minutes or until hot.

Favorite Friday: Furniture

So I hop over to my Pinterest today to find the latest eye candy and dream about my dream house and what do I spot when I first log in….this amazing furniture! So maybe I’m a little late with this bandwagon but I have lusted after this type of distressed, painted furniture for quite sometime now. Small apartments can’t quite accommodate these things just yet but rest assured that in my dream home there will be a tv stand, dresser, dining room piece of this nature somewhere in my house! I’m in love!

Favorite Friday: It’s Gel..It’s Polish..It Lasts FOREVER!

Before heading on our 2 week honeymoon I had to get my nails done. My cousin recently told me about this new thing called gel polish or shellac. I went to my local nail salon and asked for this special, extra long-lasting polish. The hostess popped out this wooden box filled with about 15 different containers. Each was a different color! I chose Russian Navy, classy, yet fun. Then they manicured my hands and painted two layers of base coat, then colored gel followed by a clear sealant. In between coats you put your nails under the UV lights. And in about 45 minutes…viola! You have beautiful and indestructible nails. I paid $35 for gel polish + manicure. To get this color removed and a new color on you must go to the salon or else you could ruin your natural nails, be careful ladies!! You may say well that’s not cheaper because you have to go back and have it removed. Well for $25 (at my local salon) I can have it removed and a new color painted on which I know will last a month. That is half the price of a full set + fill ins every two weeks!

I did some research and discovered who made these little jars of nail heaven and of course it was OPI. I would make sure that whichever salon you to uses this brand so that you know you are getting what you pay for.  My gel polish, that is still on by the way because I have to go and have it redone, has been on for over a month! No chips, no scratches, and it’s just as shiny as ever. The only thing is that is just grows out with your nails. It’s amazing! I scratched them on zippers, washing laundry, cooking, swimming, even once with the razor while shaving my legs and nothing!! No nicks, chips or a single peel!!! I highly recommend this for weddings, proms, or every day life. Especially if you’re like me and you cannot paint your own nails to save your life. It’s my new favorite thing. Now I can have professional, perfect nails for half the price of going once a week to get a manicure or a full set all because they last longer! Hooray for perfect nails and saving money!!

Favorite Friday: FaceTime

This year it was our time to upgrade cell phones. Being the Apple lovers that we are we obviously got the new iPhone 4. Let me just say I ADORE it. There are many reasons that I am obsessed with my iPhone. Of course all the usual things that you love about an Apple product: speed, a million apps, ease of use, the 5 megapixel camera, the list could go on forever. However, today I have discovered yet another reason to love my iPhone. FaceTime. I now can have a lunch date everyday with my husband thanks to this amazing feature. We can also FaceTime his mom on her new iPod! How cool is that! It makes staying in touch that much easier and more personal. If you’re work involves jetsetting around the globe, really late nights, or you live more than a hop, skip and a jump away from your friends an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, which all come with FaceTime, are definitely the products for you. You can FaceTime wherever you are! No more Skype dates or waiting to hook up that handy webcam…just FaceTime no matter where you are. Apple not only cares about your work life and social networking, but your personal life as well. They created these features that help you stay close to those that you love. So Apple, thank you again for making me a firm believer in your products…and we’re already saving up for an iPad 2!!! Oh the addiction we have.

Favorite Friday: Glamping {Glamorous Camping}

Today on Favorite Friday let’s just put it out there that I am not a “woodsy” girl. I love the outdoors, mountains, beach, etc. but you will not find me in a tent “roughing it” ever. So when I saw this ADORABLE Glamping birthday party on The Hostess with the Mostess blog I thought now this is my kind of camping. It involves some of my favorite aspects of the outdoors, like s’mores, with mani/pedi’s! Now what more could a girl want on her birthday?? Check out all the details here.
